Fall Update

Hi everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful
weather! This is a very LONG email with lots of info, so do
me a favor and grab a glass of wine or cup of coffee and
read it all when you have some time - thank you!

#1 Updated Schedule
I will start by saying I KNOW, first hand, how busy all of
the girls are with school, family commitments, and
activities, so thanks to everyone for your understanding if
there is a date conflict. It is impossible to find dates
that work for all 17 girls, but we do try our best. I have
heard from many of you that planning ahead is key, so I have
attached an updated schedule for all of the dates we know,
thus far. This includes our Fashion Photo Shoot Party, two
different Field Trips to the Veterinarian (girls may attend
one or both!), a fun Halloween Costume Party, and our
November Giving Meeting. As new dates get confirmed, we
will share as soon as possible. Please review the schedule
and save these dates. Thank you! <email sent>

#2 New Group Email List
Thanks to all of the moms for helping out this year with
meetings and event support. In order to make communications
easier, I have created a group mailing list that we can ALL
use to contact everyone in the troop. The group mailing
list email address is troop81423@googlegroups.com. You have
all been added to this group mailing list. Please use this
new group mailing list email address
troop81423@googlegroups.com when you need to send emails to
our troop. This ensures no one is accidentally omitted and
that all email addresses are correct. Please save this
group mailing list email address to your address book and
phones. Thanks so much!

#3 Nut sale
Once a year the Girl Scouts host a magazine and nut sale. I
am the first to say there is TOO MUCH fundraising out there
between schools, activities, etc, however, it is a Girl
Scouts rule that our troop must participate in the magazine
and nut sale in order to receive donations throughout the
year. This means, if we don't sell nuts we don't get the
donation money from Microsoft :) So, we need everyone in
the troop to sell at least one nut item please. Do not go
crazy and feel you need to sell alot (like cookies). If
everyone could please sell at least one item, we will be set
for the year. Our troop nut sale lead is Elaine Poaches
(Zahira's mom). Elaine will be sending out info about the
nut sale soon. Please watch for her emails and due dates.

#4 Troop Shirts
At the first meeting we decided to reuse our purple shirts
from last year. Most girls' shirts are still in good
condition and fit. However, there are a few girls that do
indeed need new shirts. If you would like to order a new
shirt please call or email Dawn Scalise (732) 742-9321
cell/text or luvdddev@yahoo.com by September 30th. The
shirts are $18 plus a few dollars shipping.

#5 Planning
At the first meeting, we also sat and reviewed our troop
plan for the year. Thanks to all of the mom's that have
volunteered to help host a meeting. This is extremely
valuable - thank you! I have updated our plan and attached
it here, for your reference. Again, this is just extra info
but it gives you an idea of what types of activities are
being planned for the rest of the year. If there is any
activity you'd like to help out with, please let me know.

#6 Flip Flops
During our kick off meeting, the girls decorated flip flops
with balloons. The flip flops look pretty cute! I attached
a picture to this email, for those that didn't see the flip
flops. Isabelle actually made a pair, using the balloon
technique, for her cousin's birthday gift. If anyone would
like supplies to do the flip flops at home, I have lots of
pairs and extra balloons. Just let me know.

#7 Girl Scout Day at iPlay America
As a bonus for early bird registration, everyone is eligible
to attend the Girl Scout Day at iPlay America on Sat Oct 24
2015 @ 12:00 PM - 4:00. The kicker is this event costs $25
per girl, which many of us leaders feel is still very high
and not much of a treat. However, I did want to ensure you
all knew about the event and that you were eligible to
attend. Package includes: pizza lunch, unlimited rides on
the Spin Zone, Kite Flyer, Happy Swing, Jump Around, Dizzy
Dragon, 4-D Movie Theatre, Lazer Frenzy. Mini Bowling, and
one admission to Cosmic Laser Tag & iPA Speedway Go Karts.
Participants will also receive a $5 Game Credit card. For
questions regarding the Girl Scout Day at iPlay America
please contact: Kim Reed at kreed@gscsnj.org or
1-800-582-7692 Ext. 210.

#8 Extra Badges
Dawn and I cleaned out our supplies and below is a full list
of extra badges that you guys can pick from. These are all
FREE. For the official ones, girls can do exercises online
with you to earn at home. For the fun ones, if you want
it - they are yours! I typically send out this list of
extra badges once a year for you all to pick from. I like
to do this to (1) get rid of them and (2) in case you lost a
badge or two you can get a replacement. First come, first
served. If you would like one of these badges, please call
or email Dawn Scalise (732) 742-9321 cell/text or
luvdddev@yahoo.com.

Socks of Love

As a "giving" project for November, our Girl Scout Troop
made "Socks of Love" for a local veterans home. We modified
an idea we saw online and asked the local veterans home what
items their residents could use. Our troop purchased crew
height socks, baby power (4 oz size), plastic combs, and
small individual tissue packs. In addition, our girls made
small notes and included one in each sock. We formed an
assembly line and filled one sock with the matching sock
(folded up), the toiletries, and a note. We tied with a red
bow and attached a "Socks of Love" tag. The girls had a
great time assembling the socks and completing a "giving"
project for the veterans.

Girl Scouts - End of Year Ceremony and Seaside Campfire

Good morning everyone,
Our End of Year Ceremony and Seaside Campfire is coming up
on Saturday, June 28th.

Were you ever at the beach and find a bottle with a letter
in it? It's very exciting to see the bottle bobbing along
on the waves and then find that it holds a note, maybe
written by someone many miles away. For our End of Year
Ceremony, we'd like to ask that each girl bring a "message
in a bottle". Please recycle a plastic water bottle. Have
your girl write a short note or draw a picture to include in
the bottle. The theme of the note/picture should be "Our
year as Girl Scouts" and the girls should summarize what our
troop did this year and say that the bottle is being sent
out to sea during our End of Year Ceremony. Girls should
include our troop number 81423 and their first name only.
For safety reasons, do not allow the girls to include their
home address or their cell phone numbers. Please include
the troop email address troop81423@hotmail.com in case
someone finds the bottle and wants to contact us. For more
fun, girls can add a 2014 penny, confetti, or a tiny shell
to the bottle as well. Close the bottle tightly! We will
use these bottles during the End of Year Ceremony, so please
bring them on Saturday, June 28th.

Please keep in mind, we can only accommodate a maximum of 30
attendees for this event, including adults, so only Girl
Scouts and their mom's please.

** 5:30 ** - Arrival Time
6:15PM - End of Year Ceremony
7:00PM - Seaside Campfire and S'mores
8:30PM - Ending time

Girl Scouts - Important Reminders for this weekend

Hi everyone - here is an important list of reminders for this weekend.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  The assignments of who is brining what and the show lineup are reattached here too.

Friday Night

4:30 to 5:30 - Rehearsal at Verne Fowler

Wear Green shirt

To Bring:

SWAPs - If anyone has SWAPs to hand out to the troop, Friday night would be a great time to bring them (the rest of the weekend will be very hectic!).

Makena's pink shirt - LJ

Saturday Night

7:30 to 9:00 - Setup at Microsoft grade 3-5 girls and parents only

To Bring:

Posters - All

Assigned items (food/drinks) Saturday night if possible - All

Print out of PPT presentation or talent Expo script - grade 3-5 girls

Sunday Day

NOTE:  All girls must wear their official vest/sash during the entire event, they can remove it when they are performing if they want, otherwise all uniforms should be worn the whole event

The least amount of "costume" changes on Sunday, the better.  All girls need to wear a hot pink shirt and black shorts for the finale, so it might be best if they wear this outfit for the entire event.  I don't want to stifle anyone's creativity, but the less costume changes the better for all of us :)  The girls in Tumble Time will still wear a black leotard and black shorts (leotards are must easier to do gymnastics in.)

Please remind your guests about the donations for the NICU.  Suggested donation list was attached to their invitation.

1:00PM - Arrival time for grade 3-5 girls and moms

2:00PM - Arrival time for grade K-2 girls and moms

3:00PM - Event Start Time

5:00 to 6:00PM - Mandatory clean up for EVERYONE

To Bring:

Girl Scout sash or vest

NICU donations from each Girl Scout and each mom

Posters

Any remaining assigned items (food/drinks)

Girl Scouts - getting badges sewn on

For those looking to get badges sewn on, $1 each. See
attached.

Girl Scouts - Looking ahead

Hi everyone,
We hope everyone had a great time at the Blue Man Group
show - my kids LOVED IT!!!!!

We wanted to share an update on our volunteers and troop
responsibilities. Although she will continue to be one of
our key crafty moms, Erica will be stepping down as a leader
next year. Thank you Erica for all you have done for the
troop!

Erica handled our troop accounting, so we are going to shift
around responsibilities. See below. Dawn will be taking
over troop accounting, so we are looking for someone to
volunteer to be our Cookie Mom for next year. This is a big
job that includes organizing our troop's orders,
distribution, and our cookie booth participation. If you
are interested in volunteering, please let us know. FYI our
Cookie Mom will need to be a registered Girl Scout adult
volunteer, so if we identify someone by June 1st we can
reimburse this volunteer's registration fee, along with the
girls' registration fees. If more than one person
volunteers, this is a job that a few people can help with.

TROOP RESPONSIBILITIES
Lisajoy - Meetings, Events, Communications
Dawn - Meeting support, Troop registration, Accounting,
Badges
Andrea - Meeting support, Nut Sale

In addition to the above, we are always looking for
volunteers to help organize some of our events or field
trips.

Thank you for a great year so far. We will see everyone the
weekend of June 6th.

If you are interested in being our troop Cookie Mom please
let us know.

Best,
Andrea, Dawn, Erica & Lisajoy

Leader meeting

Special thanks to Genna, Amanda, Adelina  and Isabelle for presenting at the Colonia/Iselin leader meeting tonight. They did a really great job!  Our girls talked about planning for their bronze award and the upcoming Dessert with Divas community service project. The other leaders really enjoyed it. Great job girls!

Girl Scouts - Dessert with Divas event info

Hi everyone. The Dessert with Divas event is just a few
weeks away. Exciting! Here are some outstanding items.

LEADERS MEETING
Attention girls grade 3 and up! Our troop will be
presenting their Bronze Award project Dessert with Divas at
the Leader's meeting this THURSDAY MAY 22ND at 7pm @ Iselin
Firehouse. If your daughter is available and can attend,
please let me know. This will be a quick 10 minute
presentation to share the event concept with the other local
leaders. Once I know who can attend, I will help the girls
prepare a little something to talk about. Please let me
know.

EVENT FINALE
The finale is a dance routine and bows to the song
"Applause". I sent the MP3 for everyone two weeks ago.
Please ask your girl to practice at home. Video link to
practice with
= http://youtu.be/p579vmxRlVw.

FINALE EXTRA PRACTICE
In case the video is not enough, Ashley will be hosting a
finale rehearsal for anyone that can attend on FRIDAY JUNE
6TH 4:30 to 5:30pm @ Verne Fowler. This is an extra
practice. We realize many of us work, however a few girls
have asked to have a rehearsal and this was the best time we
could find prior to the event with Ashley's schedule.
Please try to attend.

MUSIC FOR EVENT
Please email me all music to be used at the Dessert with
Divas events - this includes songs for the vocal
performances. I'd like to have everything ready soon so we
can test it before the day of the event. For performances
with multiple girls, please ask one person to email me the
music file. Thank you!

CHA CHA SLIDE
I will be sending the music for the Cha Cha slide in a few
days. There are lots of different versions so I'll send you
the one we will be using.

RSVPs
We need your help to please follow-up with the
women invited to the event and ask them to RSVP in the next
few weeks. They can RSVP direct to Dawn (info on the
invitation) or if they RSVP to you, you should RSVP to Dawn
with the total number you expect to be attending so we can
begin to get a final headcount. This is important for
seats, food and drinks, thank you!

Thank you and if you have any questions, please let us know.

Best,
Andrea, Dawn, Erica & Lisajoy

NJ Renaissance Faire Scout Promotion

Sharing promotion for NJ Renaissance Faire. This is an
activity scouts can do with their families, so our whole
troop doesn't need to go to participate in the promotion.
Enjoy!
