Meeting location - First Presbyterian Church of Iselin
the First Presbyterian Church of Iselin. It is fantastic!
Special thanks to Glory Thomas (Bea's mother) and family for
arranging the use of the facility for us. I know you will
all love it!
I do want to clarify the location for you. Use the address
below to locate the general area but the entrance and
parking lot are actually on Middlesex Avenue. The First
Presbyterian Church is a smaller church in the back of the
large parking lot on Middlesex Avenue. Once you enter the
parking lot, look right on the right side to the brick
house/building. That is the building we will use. The
fence in front of the brick house says "Church School" on
blue signs. Park in the lot and enter right in the middle
under the roof. It is a fantastic space!
Please remember to send your girl with a water bottle,
snack, and napkin. We want to keep the space super clean :)
Thanks again and see most of you on Saturday.

Colonia Firehouse Field Trip
trip to the Colonia Firehouse. The girls learned about the
engines, watched a fire safety video, and saw (up close) the
uniform/equipment the firemen wear. A few lucky moms
(including me!) got to go up 100 feet in the air in the
basket. So fun!

Lowe's Field Trip
demonstrations of how to cut carpet, kitchen/tile design,
and I think the big hit was them mixing paint. It was
really great.
More info on up coming meetings soon. I need to work out a
few details with the calendar through January.

Nature Walk and Scavenger Hunt
scavenger hunt today. Sounds fantastic!
Just a reminder that our first special activity is coming up
on Tuesday, November 2nd from 2:45 - 4:00 PM. We will be
going to PETCO on Route 1 where the girls will learn about
fish, reptiles, birds, and small animals. There is no cost
for this activity.
I realize this is during the day and many parents work, but
the girls have off from school for Teacher's convention (or
whatever it is called this year!).
I need to give PETCO a headcount, so if you will be
attending please reply back to me and let me know. Each
girl can bring a sibling or friend. Once I have a
headcount, I'll confirm our reservation with PETCO.
Thanks and see everyone on Tuesday, November 2nd.

Welcome back!
introduced the new girls and did lots of fun activities as a
group. We taught the new girls the Girl Scout promise and
did a craft to help us always remember the promise. The
girls also got to decorate our new troop t-shirts that we
will wear at our meetings and activities until January! Fun
times.

Frequently Asked Questions
send out answers to everyone.
First, a few wanted to know if our troop will be Girl Scout
Daisy or Brownie. Until January, our troop will be Girl
Scout Daisy and then we will graduate the whole troop to
Brownie in January. This allows us to get the new girls
integrated into the troop and accommodate the multiple
grades we have in our troop.
A few of the girls (and mom's) wanted to know about the
uniform. We leaders are very frugal (ha ha!) and did not
want to make the new girls buy the Daisy uniform for only a
few months between now and January. So we decided that from
October to January, we will create matching troop t-shirts
that the girls will wear to meetings and activities. They
are light blue and the girls will decorate them (and maybe
sign them!) at our first troop meeting. We thought the
troop t-shirts were an easy, fun, and affordable way to keep
the girls matching until January. Then come January, we
will graduate the entire troop to brownies and each girl
will purchase a Brownie uniform.
** If anyone has fabric markers or permanent markers they
can donate to our project, we need them for the girls to
decorate the new troop t-shirts! Please bring to the first
meeting. Thanks! **
A few parents have asked about the new members of our troop.
We are so excited to have 3 new girls joining us plus we
have received a few other inquiries. If you have a
friend/neighbor that might be interested we can accommodate
1-2 more girls, but we would like to keep the troop size
under 15 if possible. If someone is indeed interested, you
can give them my name/number/email and I can talk to them
about our troop and program.
Another popular question we received was about cookie sales!
Our troop will be participating this year in the cookie sale
this January!
We will have more detailed information in the next few
weeks, but we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday,
October 2nd from 1:00 - 300 PM.

2010 Fall Update
will be starting Girl Scouts soon and I wanted to share some
basic information with you.
Our first meeting will be:
Saturday, October 2nd
1:00 - 300 PM
130 Stafford Road
Colonia, NJ 07067
A parent/guardian for each girl should plan to stay for the
first 15 minutes of the meeting to get troop information,
review the schedule, complete outstanding paperwork, etc.
In addition to troop meetings, we are trying to plan lots of
great activities for the girls this year. We'll share that
information and schedule once it is ready.
Between now and the first meeting, please get the following
ready:
#1 - Registration forms and dues
To register for Girl Scouts, complete the form (link below),
print 2 copies, and bring it to our first meeting with the
$12 dues. Girl Scouts requires $12 annual dues per child
for registration. Please note - you can fill in the
registration form right online (fill in the required
information and click print (lower right side) however
registration forms must be submitted in a paper copy only.
We cannot accept an emailed version at this time.
#2 - Troop Fees
Our troop will be collecting $10 per girl to put towards
supplies, special patches, projects, etc.
#3 - Water and small snack for each meeting
Our meetings are 2 hours this year, so please send your girl
to each meeting with a water bottle and a small snack. No
candy please.
We will have more detailed information in the next few
weeks, but we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday,
October 2nd from 1:00 - 300 PM.

Thanks for a great Daisy season!
projects and the crafts. The girls were all lovely to work
with, so thank you for letting them participate.
As you know, today is our last meeting of the school year.
If there is interest, we may do a get together for the girls
over the summer just to keep them in touch and have some
fun. More details on that also after school ends, but it
will be very casual and just for fun.
We will resume again in late September, the exact days and
locations are still TBD. We'll email everyone over the
summer. Our troop will remain as Daisy's until December and
then we'll graduate the whole troop up to Brownie's in
January. To get us started for the Fall, we will keep
things simple with a Halloween party, Christmas fun, and
maybe singing carols for a local Seniors group (or something
like that). If you have ideas for Fall activities, let us
know.
Thanks again for a great Daisy season, and we hope to see
you all in September!

cards for soldiers over seas. Then, they each decorated
paper links and together, built a friendship chain out of
their links.
We also prepared for our end of year ceremony and party!
The girls made invitations for their family and friends,
plus they learned a new song (below). Each girl is also
assigned a part in our petal ceremony, so be sure to
practice their part and the song between now and the end of
year ceremony on Weds 5/26.

3/31 Meeting Summary
special guest speaker Mrs. Jenny Logus, and we based much of
this week's activities on that experience.
First, for the "Spring Green Daisy Petal" (Considerate and
Caring) we talked to the girls about a food drive Mrs. Jenny
is running for children with cancer. We explained how a
food drive works, who the food goes to, and thanked everyone
for participating. All of the food collected will go to The
Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, located at 1833 Front Street,
Scotch Plains, NJ.
Next we worked on the Purple & Magenta Daisy Petals "Respect
Myself And Others" and "Respect Authority." We created a
thank you project for Mrs. Jenny ("Respect Authority"). The
girls made a beautiful picture and wrote notes to Mrs. Jenny
about why they liked the class or how they appreciated Mrs.
Jenny. We will deliver the thank you picture, the food
items, and some photos to Mrs. Jenny this week.
Lastly, we read them the book "I'm Gonna Like Me" and it
talks about self-esteem, teaching girls to like themselves
despite differences, etc. The girls made picture frames,
and we asked the girls to put the frames next to their beds
as a reminder that they are kind and caring girls.
