Socks of Love
made "Socks of Love" for a local veterans home. We modified
an idea we saw online and asked the local veterans home what
items their residents could use. Our troop purchased crew
height socks, baby power (4 oz size), plastic combs, and
small individual tissue packs. In addition, our girls made
small notes and included one in each sock. We formed an
assembly line and filled one sock with the matching sock
(folded up), the toiletries, and a note. We tied with a red
bow and attached a "Socks of Love" tag. The girls had a
great time assembling the socks and completing a "giving"
project for the veterans.

Girl Scouts - End of Year Ceremony and Seaside Campfire
Our End of Year Ceremony and Seaside Campfire is coming up
on Saturday, June 28th.
Were you ever at the beach and find a bottle with a letter
in it? It's very exciting to see the bottle bobbing along
on the waves and then find that it holds a note, maybe
written by someone many miles away. For our End of Year
Ceremony, we'd like to ask that each girl bring a "message
in a bottle". Please recycle a plastic water bottle. Have
your girl write a short note or draw a picture to include in
the bottle. The theme of the note/picture should be "Our
year as Girl Scouts" and the girls should summarize what our
troop did this year and say that the bottle is being sent
out to sea during our End of Year Ceremony. Girls should
include our troop number 81423 and their first name only.
For safety reasons, do not allow the girls to include their
home address or their cell phone numbers. Please include
the troop email address troop81423@hotmail.com in case
someone finds the bottle and wants to contact us. For more
fun, girls can add a 2014 penny, confetti, or a tiny shell
to the bottle as well. Close the bottle tightly! We will
use these bottles during the End of Year Ceremony, so please
bring them on Saturday, June 28th.
Please keep in mind, we can only accommodate a maximum of 30
attendees for this event, including adults, so only Girl
Scouts and their mom's please.

Girl Scouts - Important Reminders for this weekend
Friday Night
4:30 to 5:30 - Rehearsal at Verne Fowler
Wear Green shirt
To Bring:
SWAPs - If anyone has SWAPs to hand out to the troop, Friday night would be a great time to bring them (the rest of the weekend will be very hectic!).
Makena's pink shirt - LJ
Saturday Night
7:30 to 9:00 - Setup at Microsoft grade 3-5 girls and parents only
To Bring:
Posters - All
Assigned items (food/drinks) Saturday night if possible - All
Print out of PPT presentation or talent Expo script - grade 3-5 girls
Sunday Day
NOTE: All girls must wear their official vest/sash during the entire event, they can remove it when they are performing if they want, otherwise all uniforms should be worn the whole event
The least amount of "costume" changes on Sunday, the better. All girls need to wear a hot pink shirt and black shorts for the finale, so it might be best if they wear this outfit for the entire event. I don't want to stifle anyone's creativity, but the less costume changes the better for all of us :) The girls in Tumble Time will still wear a black leotard and black shorts (leotards are must easier to do gymnastics in.)
Please remind your guests about the donations for the NICU. Suggested donation list was attached to their invitation.
1:00PM - Arrival time for grade 3-5 girls and moms
2:00PM - Arrival time for grade K-2 girls and moms
3:00PM - Event Start Time
5:00 to 6:00PM - Mandatory clean up for EVERYONE

Girl Scouts - Looking ahead
We hope everyone had a great time at the Blue Man Group
show - my kids LOVED IT!!!!!
We wanted to share an update on our volunteers and troop
responsibilities. Although she will continue to be one of
our key crafty moms, Erica will be stepping down as a leader
next year. Thank you Erica for all you have done for the
troop!
Erica handled our troop accounting, so we are going to shift
around responsibilities. See below. Dawn will be taking
over troop accounting, so we are looking for someone to
volunteer to be our Cookie Mom for next year. This is a big
job that includes organizing our troop's orders,
distribution, and our cookie booth participation. If you
are interested in volunteering, please let us know. FYI our
Cookie Mom will need to be a registered Girl Scout adult
volunteer, so if we identify someone by June 1st we can
reimburse this volunteer's registration fee, along with the
girls' registration fees. If more than one person
volunteers, this is a job that a few people can help with.
TROOP RESPONSIBILITIES
Lisajoy - Meetings, Events, Communications
Dawn - Meeting support, Troop registration, Accounting,
Badges
Andrea - Meeting support, Nut Sale
In addition to the above, we are always looking for
volunteers to help organize some of our events or field
trips.
Thank you for a great year so far. We will see everyone the
weekend of June 6th.
If you are interested in being our troop Cookie Mom please
let us know.

Andrea, Dawn, Erica & Lisajoy

Leader meeting

Girl Scouts - Dessert with Divas event info
weeks away. Exciting! Here are some outstanding items.
LEADERS MEETING
Attention girls grade 3 and up! Our troop will be
presenting their Bronze Award project Dessert with Divas at
the Leader's meeting this THURSDAY MAY 22ND at 7pm @ Iselin
Firehouse. If your daughter is available and can attend,
please let me know. This will be a quick 10 minute
presentation to share the event concept with the other local
leaders. Once I know who can attend, I will help the girls
prepare a little something to talk about. Please let me
know.
EVENT FINALE
The finale is a dance routine and bows to the song
"Applause". I sent the MP3 for everyone two weeks ago.
Please ask your girl to practice at home. Video link to
practice with
= http://youtu.be/p579vmxRlVw.
FINALE EXTRA PRACTICE
In case the video is not enough, Ashley will be hosting a
finale rehearsal for anyone that can attend on FRIDAY JUNE
6TH 4:30 to 5:30pm @ Verne Fowler. This is an extra
practice. We realize many of us work, however a few girls
have asked to have a rehearsal and this was the best time we
could find prior to the event with Ashley's schedule.
Please try to attend.
MUSIC FOR EVENT
Please email me all music to be used at the Dessert with
Divas events - this includes songs for the vocal
performances. I'd like to have everything ready soon so we
can test it before the day of the event. For performances
with multiple girls, please ask one person to email me the
music file. Thank you!
CHA CHA SLIDE
I will be sending the music for the Cha Cha slide in a few
days. There are lots of different versions so I'll send you
the one we will be using.
RSVPs
We need your help to please follow-up with the
women invited to the event and ask them to RSVP in the next
few weeks. They can RSVP direct to Dawn (info on the
invitation) or if they RSVP to you, you should RSVP to Dawn
with the total number you expect to be attending so we can
begin to get a final headcount. This is important for
seats, food and drinks, thank you!
Thank you and if you have any questions, please let us know.

We are hosting a fundraiser opportunity via Stella and Dot
for the Dessert with Divas event. 10% of total sales from
this fundraiser will get donated to the NICU project. The

way to support the NICU project. See attached for the
Stella and Dot fundraiser information. Your participation
is optional but we hope you will support this great cause.
Feel free to forward the attached flyer to the friends and
family you invited to the event. They can shop online or

Blue Man Group
Hi all
We had 2 people inform us that they are no longer able to go to Blue Man Group. I am sending this out to see if you know anyone that would like to go. It would be 2 tickets for $85 plus $10 per person for bus. (The 2nd tix was paid for by the troop so u would be getting that for free). I would then refund the person who paid already. First person who gets back to me with a confirmed yes i want them gets em !
Thanks Erica

Girl Scouts - Register by June 1st to get reimbursed by our troop
As you know, we have been very fortunate to have troop funds
to cover the girls expenses for crafts, field trips, and
more. Our goal is to always use the money for the girls!
Girl Scout registration is $30 per year.
GREAT NEWS! The leaders have decided that anyone that
registers via Early Bird Registration for the 2015 school
year will be eligible to get their registration fees
reimbursed by our troop. That equals free Girl Scouts for
next school year :)
In order to get your fees reimbursed by our troop, you must
be registered by June 1st. No exceptions. You can register
at www.gscsnj.org/registration. If you have any questions
or problems, you can call 856-795-1560 ext 288 or email
ebizsupport@gscsnj.org.
Shortly after June 1st we will confirm troop registration in
the online tool, and you will each receive reimbursement
from our troop (not Girl Scouts).
Please remember, this is only for our troop and something we
decided to do with our troop funds for our girls.
In addition, Girl Scouts (not our troop) is offering a free
"early bird" fun patch, so each girl will also receive this
patch once registered.
Thank you and if you have any questions, please let us know.

Andrea, Dawn, Erica & Lisajoy

Girl Scouts - SWAPs
Scout SWAPs. I had no idea what SWAPs were but Isabelle
really enjoyed the workshop so I thought I would share with
you all in case your girl might be interested.
SWAPs are a tradition of Girl Scouts exchanging tiny
keepsakes. Each keepsake is attached to a safety pin with a
tag saying who is it from, the occasion, date, or maybe
their contact information. Every SWAP is different and
unique. Girls can make SWAPs based on an interest, for an
event, a holiday, or just for fun. You can think of it
similar to Disney pin trading - girls give and receive
SWAPs, they collect them on a lanyard to share and look it.
SWAPs are generally crafty and handmade.
I attached a few sample pictures. At the workshop Isabelle
made ones for a smores, a sleeping bag, and a bandana. Then
they all traded within the workshop with different girls.
It was crafty and alot of fun. If you search on pinterest
there are thousands of ideas. Adelina is going to Girl
Scout camp this summer and the camp theme is "Hunger Games"
and she found a really cute archery SWAP idea made out of
felt and toothpicks :) Search pinterest!
Here is my small pinterest board - just started yesterday:
http://www.pinterest.com/ljmarinello/girl-scouts-swaps
I am sharing this bc I know alot of our girls like crafts
and they all seem to like to give and receive :) SWAPS are
an activity girls can do at home and bring to meetings to
share with the troop and/or bring to events we attend with
other troops to give to other scouts.
This is not required but if anyone would like to bring SWAPs
to our meeting on May 4th that would be great. I am going
to talk to the girls about SWAPs for a few minutes and bring
some samples. I am also going to get each girl a simple
lanyard to start their collection. Whatever SWAPs girls
make, please encourage them to do a few things:
1. Always bring a minimum of 18 SWAPS to a meeting so the
whole troop receives (can give to the adults and leaders too
if they want!)
2. Always always make it attachable with a safety pin
3. Attach a small piece of paper/label with their name or
some other info.
Many of our girls will really enjoy this SWAPing activity.
Enjoy and see you soon!

Girl Scouts - Dessert with Divas Event Info
As a follow-up to our meeting last week, we wanted to
provide some details and next steps for our "Dessert with
Divas" event.
The "Dessert with Divas" event is a community service
project being organized by our grade 3-5 girls to earn their
Bronze Award. They will be collecting donations for the
Newark Beth Israel NICU patients. Even though the event is
being organized by our grade 3-5 girls the ENTIRE troop is
participating in the event :)
INVITES
Attached is the invitation and printed copies of the
invitation were sent home on Sunday. All girls in the troop
are encouraged to invite special women to the event -
grandmothers, aunts, cousins, neighbors, teachers, etc. We
are planning for approx 80 people. If you have any
questions about the invitations please let us know.
RSVPS
All RSVPS should go through Dawn. Her contact info is on the
invite. If someone RSVPs to you directly, please just send
their info to Dawn. We want to ensure we have a headcount
of who is attending so we have enough food and supplies.
Thank you!
NICU DONATIONS
The event will be collecting donations for the Newark Beth
Israel NICU patients. A sample list of donation suggestions
is included in the invite. The girls in our troop should
also make a donation. A representative from the NICU will
be at the event to accept the donations that day.
ENTERTAINMENT
After a short presentation about the project and the NICU,
all of the girls are the entertainment for the event :)
They are putting together a "Diva Talent Expo" to showcase
all of their great talents. Each girl in the troop is
encouraged to participate and be in no more than 2 acts for
the expo. For the grade 3-5 girls we started talking about
their "talents" at the meeting. So far they have identified
gymnastics, singing, jump rope, circus tricks, and poetry
reading. For the grade K-2 girls we thought it would be
best to work with you parents on their "talents" and what
they would be comfortable performing. Please start to think
about this and let me know if you have ideas. Be creative!
We will finalize the acts for the expo at our May meeting,
so if you will not be attending please connect with me
before then. Thanks! In addition, Ashley Vitale will help
us coordinate a finale and bows for the expo. This will be
done at the May meeting. I will video the finale and bows
so any girl that is not at the meeting in May can review at
home and learn it. We will also practice it before the
event on June 8th.
FOOD and DRINKS
All girls in the troop are being asked to bring food and
drink items for the event. For families with more than one
girl scout, please sign up for one item per girl. To view
our sign up page, go to:
www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0B4DAAA823A7FC1-dessert
The event is still nearly two months away, but hopefully
this information will get you started. Thank you and if you
have any questions, please let us know.

James Monroe Elementary School - collection for Lori Decoite
As many of you know, my best friend from college Lori
Decoite is the art teacher at James Monroe Elementary
School. Lori did a sculpture and art lesson for our girl
scout troop in February 2012. A few people have asked me
how they can help Lori and the teachers. Right now they do
not need school supplies but they need to begin to rebuild
their classrooms and personal teaching items that were lost.
We all know how much personal time and money teachers put
into their items and supplies! Lori lost all of her easels,
her oil paints, her college art portfolio (horrible!), and
her iPad. No obligation, but since Lori was a friend to our
troop if anyone is interested to make a donation I will be
collecting money to get her a Visa gift card that she can
use towards replacing her personal items. No obligation.
Cash donations can be brought to the April 13th meeting.

Girl scouts - "Happy Mail" Activity
One activity that I discussed with the girls was having a
quick pen pal exchange with another girl in our troop. Who
doesn't love to get mail these days? Since we are not
meeting again until Sunday, April 13th I thought this would
be a great activity to do now at home to keep the troop
connected. I think the girls will be excited to do this
too, and we will talk about it in our next meeting. It is
our "Happy Mail" activity :)
Instructions:
1. Have your girl send "Happy Mail" to her assigned pen pal
below by March 20th. The name on the left side is the
sender. The name on the right side is the receiver. "Happy
Mail" is more than a picture or a letter. See this link
below for some unique ideas of items that can go in the
mail. You can mail filled plastic Easter eggs, water
bottles filled with notes, flip flops with writing on them,
Frisbees, balls, etc. Whatever you choose to send, be sure
to include a note and the senders name. Make it unique and
fun!
2. Once your girl receives her "Happy Mail" have her reply
back to the sender with another "Happy Mail" by April 1st -
so you will be sending two pieces of "Happy Mail" to two
different girls. Again, be sure to include a short note and
the senders name.
3. Bring all "Happy Mail" items to our meeting on Sunday,
April 13th to see and review. This will be fun!
Have a look here for some really neat "Happy Mail" ideas:
http://www.giverslog.com/?tag=happy-mail

Attached is the current roster for home addresses.
Here are the "Happy Mail" partners (left is the sender /
right is the receiver):

Thank you and if you have any questions, please let us know.
Have fun with "Happy Mail" :)

Girl Scouts - World Thinking Day video project
The troop created a video for World Thinking Day 2014. The
theme was WW education, so the troop learned about three
different countries and what education looked like in those
countries. I must say, for only two hours I think they did
a really great job. Unfortunately, I had to put the
finishing touches on the video at home so the girls did not
see the final video. Please share this link with them. I
think they did really great!
Video link: http://youtu.be/Mvbt9z7FZPc
We will distribute World Thinking Day badges in a few weeks.
If anyone that missed the meeting is interested to do an
activity to qualify for the badge, please let me know.

Girl Scouts - Spring Schedule and NYC Trip Information
Thank you for your patience as we finished up the Spring
Schedule for Girl Scouts. Please see attached for a
schedule that gets us through the end of June!
Now that our Annual Cookie Sale is wrapping up, it is time
to plan our Spring trip for the girls as a reward for their
hard work! Troop 81423 will be paying the cost for our Girl
Scouts to go see the Blue Man Group in NYC! We are really
excited about this event. As many of you know, we tried to
get in to see Aladdin but it is a brand new show and tickets
were moving faster than we could keep up. So the Blue Man
Group looks like a fantastic option. We think the girls
will really enjoy it! Family, friends & siblings are
welcome to join us for $85 per ticket. A minimum of one
adult per girl is required to attend and purchase a ticket.
For more information about this amazing show, visit
http://www.blueman.com.
Saturday, May 24th @ 8:00PM
Astor Palace Theater in New York City
Money for Blue Man group tickets can be brought to Erica
Pontoriero at 176 Stafford Road in Colonia. Erica (732)
580-0185 cell/text. Cash or Check made out to Troop 81423.
Order form and full cash payment must be received by March
2nd. We are paying for the Girl Scouts, you are only
responsible for the other adults/siblings/friends in your
group.
Also, the troop's community service event "Dessert with
Divas" will be held on June 8th. The Juniors are doing the
planning and prep to earn their Bronze Award, but all girls
in our are expected to help out and participate in the
event. Each girl will be allowed to invite three special
women in their lives to the event. More details to follow,
but please save the date for Grandma's, Aunts, etc.

Girl Scouts - father daughter dance
dance, thank you all for the payments. We have 15 girls out
of 18 attending - wow! Sounds like it will be a great time
for them. I will be turning in money tomorrow. Since we
have several families with more than one girl attending, I
am letting the dance organizers figure out our table
seating. Attire for the dad's is typically a suit and/or
shirt and tie. Most girls wear party dresses. Thanks again
for your prompt payments!

Girl Scout Juniors - Agent of change badge set
Girl Scouts - father daughter dance tricky tray
father daughter dance tricky tray. We found out last week
that technically tricky trays are not allowed bc they are
considered gambling. In the past year's there have always
been father daughter dance tricky tray, but now that we know
about the rule we don't want to deliberately break the
rules.
A few people are working with the girl scout higher-ups to
see if there is a way around this rule. In the mean time,
any donations you gave me or have gotten from businesses
will be used as door prizes at the father daughter dance.
If we are able to work it out and have the father daughter
dance tricky tray - great. But if not everything will be
door prizes.
Thank you all for the donations so far!

We are currently making plans to take the girls to see a
Broadway play. More details will be sent soon, but save the

and saw the April tentative dates, the theater did not have
those available. 5/31/2014 at 2:00 PM is the correct date
to save.
Thank you!

Girl Scouts - upcoming dates and Father Daughter dance details
I hope everyone is looking forward to Sweet and Sassy!
Today we will go over the upcoming schedule plus the details
on the Globetrotter event and the Father Daughter Dance.
Attached is the upcoming winter schedule and today's
handouts.
The father daughter dance is on Friday, February 28th.
Details in the invitation attached. Cost is $65 Per Couple
(girl scout and dad/uncle/friend) plus $20 for each
additional girl attending (sisters). In addition, each girl
attending is asked to donate one $5-$10 value item to be
used as part of the event's tricky tray. The father
daughter dance theme is "Red Carpet" and there will be a
photo booth, DJ, and a small tricky tray that night. Sounds
like a really fun event!
The father daughter dance is being run by an older troop but
our troop is organizing the tricky tray portion only. We
are asking for all parent's help (not just our troop) to ask
local businesses and friends for donations. Nail salons,
hair salons, restaurants, sports teams, bagel stores, coffee
shops, accessory stores, etc. Most local businesses are
extremely generous with donations to non-profit
organizations. A letter is attached that you can use to ask
a local business for support. They can give you the
donation directly or have it mailed to my house. We will
collect all of the donations (from the troop leaders and the
local businesses) and create the baskets that will be used
during the tricky tray.
So - here are the key dates and what the next steps are:
1. RSVP for Father Daughter dance is February 1st. Money
and $5-10 donation item (from your girl) is due to Lisajoy
by February 1st. You can drop in my mailbox or call me
before you come.
2. Use the attached letter to ask for donations from local
businesses or friends. No donation is too small! We'd like
to ask that each family try to secure two donations from
local businesses or friends. These donations can be dropped
off to Lisajoy any time before February 24th.
3. Once we have all of the donations, we need a handful
volunteers to get together to create and wrap the baskets
for the tricky tray. This will be done the week of February
24th one or two nights after work. If you can volunteer to
help create the baskets, please let me know. I'll have wine
:)
4. We need 3-4 moms to attend the father daughter dance and
run the tricky tray event. This will include setting up the
tables, organizing the baskets, collecting the money, and
picking the winners. If you can volunteer to help the night
of the father daughter dance, please let me know.
Thank you and if you have any questions, please let us know.
Best,
Andrea, Dawn, Erica & Lisajoy

Girl Scouts - Cookie booth posters
cookie sale.
Moms - We will have the "cookie costume" again this year,
but having some hand made decorations really draws people in
to the cookie booths. I would like to ask that each girl
make at least 1 poster to use during our cookie booths in
January and February. I have attached a few poster ideas
for you to this email but any poster would be great.
Include information like price $4 per box and our troop
number 81423. The brighter and more colorful the better!
Encourage your girl to get creative with her poster!
Please have your girl bring her poster any time she
participates in a cookie booth. We cannot wait to see the
posters!
Thank you!

Subject: Cookies
Hi Everyone,
The cookies are being delivered tomorrow and will be at my
house. The sale does not officially begin until the 16th.
A few of you have already placed pre orders with me and are
cleaning out my supplies. LOL If you have already sent me
an order, I have enough and will contact you when I am ready
and we will work out pickup. The rest are going to have to
wait until the first truck which is Sat, January 18. I will
have to pick up more of at least 4 types of cookies. You
can send me your orders in the meantime, just understand
that I won't be able to get them to you until after
Saturday, the 18th.
Thanks
Dawn
Girl Scouts - Updated Roster and New Girls
I just wanted to bring everyone up to date on some new
additions to our troop for the 2nd half of the year. We are
welcoming little sisters Christina, Gianna, and Kate to our
troop! That brings our troop to 18 girls ranging in grades
K to 5th grade. I have attached our updated roster and
contact sheet for your reference.
For field trips and events like Sweet and Sassy, nothing
changes. One big, happy, fun troop! For the more rare
office meetings and service project work, Teresa Grasso and
Michelle Arduini have volunteered to help out with the K-2
girls to ensure that our activities are always super fun and
age appropriate. Nothing changes in our troop, but just
another two moms stepping up to lend a hand with the younger
girls. Thank you Teresa and Michelle.
Please help us welcome Christina, Gianna, and Kate at our
Sweet and Sassy event on 1/18.
Thank you and if you have any questions, please let us know.
Best,
Andrea, Dawn, Erica & Lisajoy
